A Photography Exhibition at Trestle Brewing Company in Parry Sound
I never expected to describe myself as a photographer with an exhibition, but during the month of December, a collection of my portraits was displayed at Trestle Brewing Company in Parry Sound, Ontario.
The exhibition brought together photographs of people from Parry Sound and the surrounding area. Seeing these familiar faces displayed together offered a reminder that photography is not only about creating a polished image. It can also document the people, relationships and stories that shape a community.
I am grateful to Chris and the team at Trestle Brewing Company for providing local artists and community organizations with a place to share their work. Supporting local art in a public, welcoming space gives people an opportunity to discover creative work they may not otherwise encounter.
Celebrating the People of Parry Sound Through Photography
Much of my photography is centred on people. Whether I am photographing a business owner, a community leader, a family member or someone who has quietly contributed to life in Parry Sound, I want the final portrait to feel genuine and recognizable.
When several portraits are displayed together, they begin to tell a broader story. Each person has an individual history, but collectively the photographs reflect the character of the community: the people who work here, volunteer here, build businesses here and help make Parry Sound what it is.
The Trestle Brewing exhibition gave me an opportunity to bring those individual portraits together in one place. Visitors could enjoy a meal or a locally brewed beer while looking through the photographs and perhaps recognizing a friend, neighbour, colleague or familiar face.
Why Trestle Brewing Was the Right Location
Trestle Brewing Company has become an important gathering place in Parry Sound. Its waterfront location, locally brewed beer, food and community-focused atmosphere make it a natural venue for showcasing work created by local photographers and artists.
Photography is often viewed online, one image at a time and usually on a small screen. Displaying printed portraits on a wall creates a different experience. People can slow down, look more closely and see how the images relate to one another.
For me, seeing the photographs printed and displayed publicly was also a meaningful milestone. A photograph feels different when it leaves the computer screen and becomes something tangible that people can experience together.

Local Photography and Community Stories
One of the things I value most about being a photographer in Parry Sound is the opportunity to meet people and learn more about their lives. Every portrait session creates a small record of someone at a particular moment in time.
That idea continues to influence my portrait and community photography. A strong photograph can support a professional reputation, preserve a family connection or help tell the story of someone whose contribution deserves to be remembered.
My work includes professional headshots, team photography, personal branding portraits and community storytelling projects throughout Parry Sound and surrounding areas. Although the purpose of each session may be different, my goal remains the same: to create photographs that feel natural, personal and true to the person being photographed.
